Marco Bakker (1959) attended the MTS for Photography in The Hague from 1977 till 1982, where he was taught by the photographers Frederick Linck and Ed van Wijk, among others. From 1982 onwards working as an independent photographer, mainly as a portrait photographer for magazines and publishers.

It is not uncommon for Marco to take photographs artists, writers and musicians. His portfolio website gives an insight. We see Nina Hagen, Piet Veerman and Paul Huf, but also Anouk, Tim Knol, Melanie Junk. He says: “I have a lot photographed other people, but it I like being famous people can meet where I myself what have with you.’ That is clear to Marco musicians but also fellow photographers, writers and visual artists. Marco believes that if you have a good concept, the door opens. And he often used photography as a way to get in touch. And although he did not play an instrument himself (“I have tried to play guitar, but it didn’t work.’) he succeeded this way to get close to the music to stay and engage with inspiring surrounding personalities.
