Two of his books for the French Culinary Institute won James Beard Awards and MoMA commissioned him to introduce its massive reinvention by architect Yoshiro Taniguchi to the world. He has taught at International Center for Photography, the New School, and Parsons. Matthew has photographed the biggest names in music, art, writing and food. And also hit the streets from Brooklyn to Mumbai covering current events and searching for truth and beauty.

“Photography has always been an essential part of my life. Early on, I was drawn to the streets of New York City. For years I’d walk the streets with my camera, shooting all the time. What I hoped was to find hidden moments. And sometimes, I did.

As soon as I had a little money, I traveled as often as I could. I’d bring my camera with me, as a way to see, and as a way to become part of the bigger world. Taking pictures opened my mind and my heart to this very big universe”.
