Nico van der Stam (1925-2000) was best known for his pop photography from the sixties and a little later. He has photographed, among others, for Hitweek, Muziek Express and Twen, as well as for record companies. Many photographs of his hand appeared in the then well-known Rijam school agenda. The Maria Austria Institute therefore made the exhibition ‘The Bintangs in your Rijam’ in collaboration with the Melkweg Gallery in Amsterdam in 2000. The exhibition showed a selection of national and international celebrities from David Bowie to Frank Zappa. In 2007 the publication Yesterday appeared. Besides (pop) artists Nico photographed unsuspected Amsterdammers on the street.
