“Her ‘still lives’ are leading into another dimension of life, passing to the other side of visibility”. (Michel Diaz, author).
After a career in journalism, at the end of 2005 Rieja van Aart moved from the Netherlands to France to dedicate herself completely to her photography. Since then she has regularly exhibited her still lifes in France and occasionally abroad.
In her studio in France, Rieja van Aart brings together remains of animals, plants, fabrics, paper, objects and texts in still lifes.
“Rieja van Aart’s photos offer us unexpected encounters between all kinds of objects, materials and remains of plants and animals. The silent juxtapositions come to life, capture the imagination and are charged with a sensitive or spiritual message. Due to the way in which the elements are placed next to each other, they generate a mysterious, symbolic power”. (Pierre Souchaud, writer and art critic).
