Peter Koudstaal has not only been a photographer for nearly his entire life, but he has also been involved in music since his youth. First in high school and later as a student traveling through Europe in his Volkswagen and with his father’s Zeiss Ikon camera in the back seat. When Koudstaal went to Japan for the Fuji Rock Festival, his two loves came together in a special way. It marked the start of an adventure that held him captive for several years and in which he traveled the world in search of the essence of the music festival, its visitors, and the artists.

As a photographer, Koudstaal moves unnoticed among the eager party masses and approaches his subject in an analytical way. Not only at Lowlands, Zwarte Cross or Into The Great Wide Open, but also at large international festivals such as Glastonbury, Roskilde, Electric Picnic, Lake of Stars, and Afropunk.

Toen fotograaf Peter Koudstaal voor het Fuji Rock Festival naar Japan ging, kwamen zijn twee liefdes op één plek samen. Het vormde het startschot van een avontuur dat hem een aantal jaren in de greep hield. Peter ging in de wereld op zoek naar de essentie van het muziekfestival, haar bezoekers en de artiesten. Hij begeeft zich als fotograaf ongemerkt tussen de hunkerende feestmassa’s en gaat op analytische wijze met zijn onderwerp om.
