Painted Photography: Is a series in which the search for the boundary between painting and photography is central. The handwriting of the brush versus the anonymity of digital photography, the slowness of the oil paint versus the speed of the camera. By painting a glass plate with oil paint while photographing a model, a bridge Sonja de Ridder creats a bridge between photography and painting.

Sonja de Ridder (1975) studied from 1993 at the Academy of Arts (Arnhem) and from 2006 the Academy of Photography (Amsterdam). Her series ‘Painted Photography’ is her search for the borders of those two disciplines: painting and photography. The handwriting of the brush versus the anonymity of digital photography, the slowness of oilpaint versus the speed of the camera. With painting a glasswall with oilpaint, during posing of a model behind that glass, she is creating a bridge between those two disciplines.
